PUT IT IN HD!

Lo and behold, my first color animation!

This is in response a request made by :iconlamourdanimer: to have his character Odette transformed into a polyp. To make my comeback really special though, I decided to animate it. And what a task this was.

I must've spent four whole days working on this piece. I was working on getting the angles right, the anatomy to an acceptable level, and the shading too.

You wouldn't believe how much shading I put into this thing; and I bet you guys can't even see half of it. XD Oh well, it makes it look all the more complete. I hated shading mostly because of how many duplicate layers I made that had her arms shrinking and I had to shade them exactly by the by.

One problem I had during production was conceptualizing Odette's dress, because if I were to do this realistically, her dress would have obscured her as she shrunk down and then this would have become very complicated for me. So I opted out for the more magical solution and simply have the dress get sucked into her.

Finally came the lighting on the ground, the bubbles and the whirlwind. The effects on that whirlwind and the ground were both erratic and a bit hard to manage, since I don't know how to manipulate flash all that much yet.
The whirlwind jiggles madly because I was just too lazy to make that thing any smoother. Drawing all those lines moving inch by inch was a total pain for the WIP, so I didn't want to do it again.
The bubbles were the absolute last thing I did. I studied the Little Mermaid to see how they moved there, and they were surprisingly easy to pull off; just have them shrink and they're perfect.

So after this, I intend to work on more material as I go by. I could also make another transformation like this in the future as a commission, but it'd probably have to be a once a month thing since the amount of effort I put into this is astounding. So if you guys want something like this again, give me the request and I'll give it a shot.

Also, Odette represents a bit of a style change for my polyp designs. I've decided to try and make them look a little more cute this time around. I brightened up their green and decided to go easy on the creepy designs.

@00:04Derek: *sees Odette as a polyp* Odette? You ok?
Odette: *sarcasticly* I'm fine. I just rather be a swan, thank you.

Thanks. It's a practice which I intend to improve on. I may not be the master of special effects, but if I can make great animation, I'll take the chance.

As a mov file. I got permission from Deviantart to make it a playable movie (or a Devfilm as they call it.) [link]

You don't have to worry about that with Devfilm. It will have it's own preview, unless you decide to make your own.

ok, thanx. its annoying to get a preview image on my own cuz once i save my video as a gif. or png. all the images take up my file space.

HOLY CRAP, DAVIS.
I second that comment from zelda35-- I must have watched this.. no.. definitely over 10 times.
Hope you don't mind, but I downloaded the video animation to my folder. XD
I have absolutely no complaints about this. Just really.. REALLY WELL DONE.

Very nice. Loved how you've animated the transformation sequence, unlike most artists who rarely do this with their transformations.
